I do wonder about the progress though... while technology is still going forward in specific areas it's slowed down in others just like it has in the sciences which just makes me think that perhaps science and tech aren't really that different from any other limited natural resource so any civilization that relies on there being an infinite amount of scientific and technological progress to be extracted from the structure of the universe itself is in for a rude awakening. To me it looks like an optimization problem of how to optimize the way we understand and use nature but as with all optimization there's the usual diminishing returns and with every iteration the bottleneck to fixed just moves elsewhere until it's no longer worth it to try to optimize more. What then?

As you got into the part of the video where you discuss periods of technological progress and then hegemonic shift, such as that transition from the bronze to the iron age, and then you discussed the magnet model. I could not help but think about the rapidity of change and flow of information that the industrial revolution has allowed for. I think this theoretical model is incredibly intriguing, but I also wonder if the industrial revolution has not in a way compressed time and then also introduced a higher peak into the data, in a way that if you were to start in, let’s call the industrialized period “Modern History,” that the data couldn’t represent periods of “Dark Ages” but in a shorter span and immediately lead back into growth and explosion again. Because I do think that the modern industrial revolution is a very different context than the Bronze or Iron Age, even if this model is to still hold true, and if it is, then I think the way that Industrialization could most greatly affect it is in how it in effect compresses time itself by making technological advancement and time itself seem to shrink given the hyperbolically increased amount of productive and communicative power in any given hour of the day. The introduction of Fordist production for example or the modern introduction of AI, I think are just as revolutionary as the Industrial Revolution itself and introduce new tools to be utilized by the regime, and the regime’s have shifted to adapt to them. For example Fordism and the World Wars are going to take us from British Hegemony to US Hegemony, AI is going to take us into the Tech hegemony i believe or at least destroy the concept of decentralization and kind of tend toward that totalitarian society you were speaking of. But maybe since the basic Economic model has remained the same through both of those massive changes within the Industrial Revolution it doesn’t represent any “true” qualitative change, instead a quantitative and productive change, which the World Order has been able to successfully adapt to. Mostly what I’m saying is that it’d be interesting to zoom into the data points near the top of the Graph in this Modern Industrialized era and see if we haven’t established some basic “standard” of population/technology, due to the nature of industrialized society, and these progressions through Ages are happening much more rapidly and in a different form than they had before, which cannot be accurately represented on the scale of this graph. That is not to say that the collapse of the industrial system as a whole could not plunge us back into the slower progression represented before, and I rest this idea on the fact that Industrialization is kind of a compression of time itself, relative to what was capable in the past. Which is represented in the equations presented, I feel. The reciprocal nature of Tech and Population implies compression of “time” and effort to do a given thing, because of increased productive output as a result of tech and human collaboration, or you could word the latter as a net increase in productive “brain power.” I’m also interested in that other stagnant period between ~1500 and 2000, because it’s small, and if our stagnation is also not prolonged then it should look something like that.
